SVSU Math Olympics

Whether or not you attended the Mathematics Competition at SVSU last Friday, all of you should be aware that approximately 35 students went on a field trip to SVSU on Friday. This blog actually comes from one of the blog moderators regarding the Mathematics Competition.
Do you think that 35 students should have been allowed to attend an event such as this at SVSU? Or do you think that too many or too few students attended? Give reasoning for your answer.
The highest score for Level 1 tests for Bentley was a 10 (2 students) and a 6 for Level 2. If you are one of the people who attended – give me your comments on the event please… If you did not attend, go to the link below to view this year’s test and then comment on the difficulty level of the test. Do you think 10 out of 25 is really good or bad for the test that was given?

I think the math olympics was hard. I did attend, however there were some questions on the test that I should have known or remembered learning, but wasnt able to work them out or remember how to do them. After leaving there I looked back over the test and there were a few questions I new how to do but I miss read them while taking it. I think I do poorly when under pressure because i second guess myself. If I could do the test over without a time limmit or any worries I bet i would do ten times better. I think the amount of our students that went is unfair compared to the amount of people that went from the other schools. I’m sure if half of our school went we would have had honorable mentions and had some kids place. It might also matter on how the teachers invited the kids. Wheather they only invited the kids with the highest grades or everyone. I dont think that 10 out of 25 was bad, but being under pressure and knowing your competeing is hard, some of the people who have the highest GPA did poorly so I didn’t feel like I was stupid. I think we did fine and behaved very nicely. We also all had fun.

I didn’t go to svsu and i really dont think that it was unfair because if your just wanting to go to mess around then there is no point and a lot of kids just wanted to go for that reason so i think it was fair that kids that do their work and dont just mess around went

The test for the SVSU Math Olympics seemed really hard. Even for level one! I was asked to go, but couldn’t attend and I received a copy of the 2007 test and it was difficult. I think some of the questions are written in a weird way to try and trick you. I think the Math Olympics should be open to anyone who actually wants to go, but they also need to try their best on the test. If someone just wants to go to miss school, then they shouldn’t be asked to go. I don’t think there should be a limit on how many students can go. I don’t think that 10 out of 25 is bad for this test, considering that there couldn’t be use of any calculators. It takes a long time to figure things out by hand. Hopefully next year, more people will go and the scores will get better!

I do agree that there is a lot of pressure for many people when they take tests.(I am one of those people.) Some people just blank out and can’t remember a thing. I also second guess myself and seem to over think some questons. Everyone should just go with their gut on tests and things.

I did not attend then SVSU math olympics
i am smart but the reason why i dont have the best of grades is because i am lazy
i heard the test was really hard
Some people in our 7th hour said that the highest points you could get was a 25
and the smartest people from our school got 10 or 11

I believe that the ten points is a really good score. Some of the questions are tricky, like the first one on the level one test. I don’t see a reason why not to take thirty-five participants. It won’t hurt us, will it?

I hope that no one went to SVSU just to mess around and not to try hard on the test. I also think that the people invited to go on the trip were invited because Mrs. Binkley and Ms. Dixon thought that they would give an effort on the test and not screw around there.

I attended the math olympics and I enjoyed it. It was a new experience that I learned a lot from. I was kind of disappointed on how low my scored. The questions were some what difficult, but I now know a way to prepare myself for the next time, if there is a next time, and I hope there is. And I don’t think that 10 out of 25 was a bad score considering the fact that the schools thkat scored the highest were private schools. I don’t think that the number of people who go shouldn’t matter, just as long as you, the teacher, thinks that the students will take this opperunity seriously and they deserve it as well.

i think that 35 is a good number i don’t think it would be fair to single out just a few because then it makes everyone that couldn’t go fell stupud
