SVSU Math Olympics

Whether or not you attended the Mathematics Competition at SVSU last Friday, all of you should be aware that approximately 35 students went on a field trip to SVSU on Friday.  This blog actually comes from one of the blog moderators regarding the Mathematics Competition.

Do you think that 35 students should have been allowed to attend an event such as this at SVSU?  Or do you think that too many or too few students attended?  Give reasoning for your answer.

The highest score for Level 1 tests for Bentley was a 10 (2 students) and a 6 for Level 2.  If you are one of the people who attended – give me your comments on the event please…  If you did not attend, go to the link below to view this year’s test and then comment on the difficulty level of the test.  Do you think 10 out of 25 is really good or bad for the test that was given?

Yeah so I would like to think im pretty smart and that test was prettty hard. A 10 is good and I think thats what I would have gotten right around there or a little less. As for the number of students that went, it really doesnt matter to me if they want to try it go for it if they dont good for them.

As being one of the people that got a 10 on level one I though it was easy while taking it. The thing that got me was that I over thought the problems. I made them more complicated than I needed to. I think that 35 students should go next year because it was really fun and educational. I think maybe we should hold a meeting before and go over some of the past questions. Like I never learned how to multiply a square rood and a cube root. Not that I see the answers I think I know how. Bentley should go next year.

I think that Bentley should go to the math olympics again next year. I didn’t go, taking math tests isn’t really my thing, but for those people who really like math I think that it’s a good experience. I think that however many people would like to go should be able to go. It could be like a field trip.

I think that a 10 out of 25 on the test was good especially because this was the first time Bentley’s gone.

I think that 35 students is way too many to take, because I don’t think it’s that important and it took away from their actual school day. However i think that Mrs. Binkley and Mrs. Dixon should each choose thier best five math students and take the top ten out of our school. I hate math so i personally wouldnt want to go but some people love it and those are the one’s that shoukl represent our school. I think Bentley should keep going. I think that test was hard so whoever got a ten i give them props. PEACE OUT!

I think 35 students is way too many. I would say we should only take the best 10. I took the test on the internet and it was hard, whoever got a 10 i give them props. PEACE OUT!

    Response to Ashleigh Callahan:

I do agree that it was probably a good learning experience for those who went. The ones who want to go next year will know what the test is like and know what they can expect for next year. Hopefully next time they can do better, win some awards, and represent our school very well.

    I didnt go.

it seemed cool i guess if your like really into math.

35 sounds about right idk like how many people came from other schools so i have nothing to compare it to.

id say take like 10 or something tho, just bentleys finest math guys then just have cuts for people who tried out but suck at math.

I think it turned out fairly well and enough people went, but not too many. After taking the test, we should all know what types of things to study for next year. I think the students should decide who goes an aren’t forced to attend.

i think that the test was really hard but i want to go and do it again next year but i think that we might actually need to bring more people cuz the other schools had like 100 kids go and we had the smallest class to go to the event.

If anyone is good at math, they probably should have a tournament kind of thing so only the best of the best Bentley math students go to the Math Olympics next year. I also agree that 35 people sounds like a good number, but we have nothing to compare it to unless we know how many students from each of the other schools attended.

I was supposed to go to that thing but i didnt end up going….. i think that i would have did ok but i heard it was hard. I agree with the people who said that we should only take our top ten…..i think that 35 is to much.

I think that whoever is interested should have the chance to attend. It might broaden ones horizons in the world of math. I attended the Math Olympics and as a College Algebra student taking the level 1 test I think that 10/25 is impressive.

I think we should have brought more students. There was a lot of schools there that brought over 50 students. It’s not like it really cost us anything to bring more. The more we bring the better chance we have to get a trophy.

Well, taking math tests is NOT my thing, if you know me. But this is a rather interesting competition for those who like mathematics. I didn’t attend, nor do I plan to, I’d fail miserably. We brought enough people overall, not too many, not too few. So, yes, we should attend next year for those would like to go.

SVSU was so much fun! I think we could have brought more students, but 35 was a good number this year (other schools did bring more, but those schools are much bigger than Bentley, too.)
10 out of 25 is 40%, not even passing. The tests were pretty difficult, I wish we could have done more prep work.

i think that if you wanted to go to the math thing, then you should have been able to go. i think it would be a nice way to tell you where you stand when it comes to math.

Students that think there able to take the test should. Not students that are picked. You never know who will do good on it or not. For how many students are at Bentley I think 35 was good, but lets hope for more next year. Also if the students got 10 our of 25, they should def work on prep classes before, during, or after school. Before going to take the test.

I think dat we should of took a couple of more plp. I think dat we should of took at least about 50. I looked at the level two and it looked pretty hard. yea i think dat 10 out of 15 is pretty good. Its not horrible but its not great. But overall i think they did pretty good, a little above average, i think.

I think 35 people was a little excessive, but on the other hand it was really cool going with a larger number of people from the same school. I think that a 10 on the test was great because it was sooooooo hard. It was absolutely ridiculous. I don’t know if I would take 35 students in the future though. I would probably narrow the field to 26, 13 to take the level 1 test and 13 to take the level 2 test.

congrats on those who went and tested well. I am not very good at math and quite frankly do not enjoy it so i would never want to go to something like that. For the ones who do enjoy it and are good at it i think it sounds like a great experience and that more people should do it if they feel up for a challenge. I dont think i would have scored that well judging by the questions, but if your willing to study for it and take it seriously then it should be a fun and educational experience for you. I think a ten is pretty darn good =]
